Historical Significance:
The battle between the USS Chesapeake and the HMS Shannon took place outside of Boston Harbor on June 1, 1813. Almost fifteen minutes after the battle ensued, the British overtook the USS Chesapeake. Captain James Lawrence, captain of the USS Chesapeake, was taken below deck after being wound, and shouted the famous line "Don't give up the ship!"
